When asked to list some of the most important works in Seattle's history by The Stranger, Larry Reid of Fantagraphics, formerly curator at Center on Contemporary Art and Roscoe Louie Gallery, cites:
"Dale Chihuly. Fiori di Como. 1998. Chihuly, Inc.'s ostentatious installation on the ceiling of the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas speaks to the tawdry excess and ultimate intention of the glass media. It's all about money, honey."
Is this a common enough sentiment among people who think about contemporary glass?
Why?
