Sungsoo Kim @ SOFA Chicago

Here's a funny blog post about a trip to SOFA:
2009
Sealionseelinecline:

"This Saturday I had the pleasure (thanks to a generous classmate) of attending SOFA Chicago, the Sculptural Objects & Functional Art Fair located at the Navy Pier Festival Hall. After intense brushes with taxis and pedestrians via bicycle, and an irritating plow down the densely populated pedestrian traffic that frequents Navy Pier, I arrive inside the warehouse-sized room of the second floor Festival Fall . . . only to be greeted by more pedestrian traffic (and the added challenge of preventing myself from knocking over pricey art crafts or wealthy men and women, art buyers, and the occasional art student abruptly stopping in the middle of aisles to commiserate).

I was pleasantly (but not unexpectedly) surprised to find one of my Kent State glassblowing teacher’s work in the SOFA collection this year, Sungsoo Kim. His kiln-cast glass pieces are inspired by the Styrofoam used in the packaging of electronics. It was refreshing to view the largest exhibit of glass, ceramics, sculpture and contemporary textiles I’ve seen since I moved to Chicago."
