Writer Benjamin Genocchio, in his eight-year career as art and culture critic for the New York Times, has reviewed many shows inclusive of glass. Among the artists he's reviewed are contemporaries Dale Chihuly, Josiah McElheny, Fred Wilson, and Robert Jolley. He has played no small part in placing glass on the pages of this major publication. In his reviews he often comments on the place of glass artists in the larger art world and explores glass as it relates to the themes of kitsch, craft, and art. Here he reviews a show on Long Island.
January 2010, Benjamin Gennocchio:"The pleasures and challenges of working with glass are explored in “See Through,” the current group exhibition at the Islip Art Museum, organized by Karen Shaw. But the show also invites wider contemplation of transparency..."
