"Ball State University's Board of Trustees on Friday approved construction of the $2 million Marilyn K. Glick Center for Glass on an athletic field between Ball Memorial Hospital and Christy Woods.
The new studio and instructional facility will allow the university to develop a bachelor of fine arts degree and a master of fine arts degree in glass art. BSU will be the only school in the state offering the MFA degree in glass art.
Besides offering instruction in glass art, the new facility will include an observation area to view the glass-making process. The facility will include a hot shop with three glass furnaces, glass blowing and work space, cold shop, computer design lab, classroom space, computer lab and faculty offices.
The project is being financed by a $2 million gift from the Glick Fund. Ground will be broken in September, said Marianne Glick, a BSU trustee and daughter of Marilyn Glick. Gene and Marilyn Glick, owners of one of the nation's largest residential property management companies, established the fund.
The new building is expected to open in the fall of 2010."Unknown. "BSU to break ground for art glass studio." July 27, 2009. The Star Press.com. East Central Indiana. accessed July 27, 2009. http://www.thestarpress.com/article/20090727/NEWS01/907270329/1002
