October 22, 2009: Pilchuck Show in Seattle

From the Pilchuck website:

"One-Night Show Features Pilchuck Glass School’s Best Pilchuck Glass School will host a one-night juried exhibition featuring over 250 original artworks in glass. Pilchuck on Display: An Exhibition of International Glass Art will be held Thursday, October 22nd, 2009, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of The Westin Seattle (1900 Fifth Avenue, Seattle) as part of the school’s annual auction celebration.

Free and open to the public, this event offers visitors an unparalleled opportunity to view an array of art created in glass while enjoying music and projected videos and pictures of Pilchuck’s unique educational programming in an informal environment. "Pilchuck on Display allows visitors to take a virtual trip to our campus," observes Ruth King, the school’s artistic director. "And it offers them a chance to see finished works by artists from around the world who have studied and taught at the school."

"It is rare to find a museum exhibition or gallery show containing so many individual works of art in glass," explains Patricia Watkinson, Pilchuck Glass School executive director and a former museum curator. "Pilchuck on Display offers visitors a special opportunity to view everything from Venetian-style goblets to abstract sculptures, from jewelry to one-of-a-kind prints created from glass plates. Visitors can discover new artists in the exhibition, and see new works by revered masters."

"With masterpieces by Studio Glass Movement pioneers and exciting works by emerging artists, this extraordinary variety arrayed in one place allows viewers to appreciate the range of creativity in glass," says Director of Development Katherine Cardinal. "And Pilchuck is honored to share them with Seattle-area residents and visitors."

Pilchuck on Display will be the only public viewing for these works before they enter private collections. All these artworks, along with 100 glass centerpieces will be auctioned off during the school’s 31st annual benefit auction the following night, Friday, October 23rd, 2009."
